Social events: All volunteers are members of the League of Friends and enjoy two social events during the year. One or two times a year, we meet for a meal where you can enjoy a 2 or 3 course meal at a very reasonable price. It is a good opportunity to meet other volunteers and talk to people from the other outlets who you might not normally get a chance to meet. There is a free raffle with donated prizes of fizz, chocolates, vouchers, books and clothing. We usually end the evening meal with a game of “stand up bingo” where the last person standing is the lucky winner of the prize. The golf club is very accommodating with committee meetings and social events so we are very grateful for the support of the Mickleover golf club. Did you know you can eat in their lovely restaurant or bar without being a member and enjoy their reasonable prices. Booking is not required and the bar opens at 10 and food is served throughout the day.

Food Hygiene Training: More than 100 volunteers have now trained in level 2 food hygiene. This is a huge achievement, of which we are very proud. It means we can be confident that everyone understands the importance of keeping food and premises clean, tracking date labels and recording temperatures.
Long service awards: Our volunteers often stay with us for a very long time! Rita recently received her 50 years service award, and we have lots of fun on presentation days. The hospital also holds an annual ‘Volunteers’ week when we get access to events run by them such as meals, trips and visits.
